Running a league Last updated 2 days ago

Running a league

Everything about running your league is in its admin panel. Open the league and press League admin. A number on the button means something is waiting for you, such as a request to join or a result to sort out.

The admin panel

There's a page for each job:

  • Overview: what needs doing next, and the button that starts the season.
  • Settings: how the league is run (see below).
  • Admins: who helps you run it.
  • Join requests and Withdrawals: people asking to come in or to leave.
  • Divisions, Venues, Venue assignments and Fixtures: the shape of the season. See Divisions, venues and match nights.
  • Formats and Stat types: how a match is played and what's recorded. See Match formats and Stats.
  • News, Email members and Meetings: keeping everyone in touch.
  • Disciplinary and Transfers: see Transfers, suspensions and waitlists.
  • Photos and Leaderboards.
  • Import data: bringing in a season that's already under way. See Bringing a league that's already running.

How the league is run

Under Settings, How this league is run decides how much the app does for you:

  • Fully automated: the app runs match night, with invitations, live scoring and live stats.
  • Admin-managed: you keep your own records and type in fixtures, results and stats.
  • Custom: choose each part yourself. Fixtures are made for you or typed in; teams build their own rosters or you add them; results are scored live or you type the final score; and stats are recorded live, entered as season totals, or not kept.

Scoring and the table

  • Scoring rules: the points for a win, a draw and a defeat, and whether a draw is allowed.
  • Tiebreakers: what separates sides level on points, in the order you choose: score difference, score for, score against, matches won, drawn, lost or played, or head-to-head.
  • Award attendance points: extra points just for turning up and playing.
  • Results: whether the other side has to confirm a score before it counts.
  • Who throws first (or breaks, serves, kicks off or tees off, in your sport's words).

If you change the points during a season, the table is worked out again.

Seasons

A season starts as a draft. Add the divisions and who's in them, make the fixtures, then press Start the season on the overview. That makes the fixtures live and locks in who's playing: anyone added to a team afterwards needs a league admin's approval before they can play.

When every match is settled, the season finishes by itself and the awards are given out. You can also Close season early, and Reopen season if something needs fixing. Correct a result in a finished season and the table and awards move with it.

For the next season press New season and pick the season it Follows from. Everyone carries over, and if you've set Promotion & Relegation, teams move up and down on the final table. You can change any of it before the new season starts.

Who can run it

On Admins, add people to help you run the league. They can do everything except change who the admins are or hand the league over.

To give the league to someone else, use Transfer ownership. They have to accept. When they do, the league moves onto their plan, and you stay on as an admin unless they remove you.

Other settings

  • Public portal: the league's public web page, which also gives you the embed for your website and a calendar feed. See Your league's public page, news and rules.
  • List on Discover: lets people find the league and ask to join. It's off until you turn it on.
  • Join code: the link and code to share.
  • Age Restrictions: a minimum or maximum age. Dates of birth are kept private and never shown.
  • Postponements: how many times each team can postpone in a season.
  • Friendlies, Whitelabel portal and League Sponsor: on paid plans.

Leagues can't be deleted one at a time; they're removed when you delete or reset your account.
